You must agree to the following terms and conditions of membership

Marlborough-Nelson Marine Radio Membership Conditions:

All stations operating through Marlborough-Nelson Radio's channels 01, 04, 05, 60, 63, 65 & 66 must belong to the Marlborough-Nelson Marine Radio Association Inc.

The Executive and Operators of Marlborough-Nelson Marine Radio Association Incorporated, although striving at all times to maintain a professional operation, offer their services as volunteers and do so on the basis that they accept no personal liability in respect of any loss or damage suffered by any person arising out of their voluntary service or the activities of the Association generally. In completing an Application for Membership the Applicant acknowledges and unreservedly accepts that position.

  • Please give one month’s notice if you wish to resign from the Association. All fees and levies outstanding at that date will still be payable.
  • Keep your conversations to a minimum – someone may be trying to use the radio for urgent assistance. It may also block the “scan” mode for our operators trying to monitor other channels.
  • Radios are not a toy – don’t let children play with them!
  • All VHF equipped vessels should be licensed and fitted with Channel 16, Ship to Ship 06 or 08, and Ship to Shore 74 working channels.
  • Owners of pleasure vessels with a VHF radio require a radio call sign, which can be updated or obtained by calling NZ Coastguard on 0800 40 80 90.
  • Any shore station operating on any of Marlborough-Nelson Radio's channels needs to be approved by the Association – please contact the Administration Office for further information.

Some shore based stations may also need to be licensed with Radio Spectrum Management (RSM) as a “Coast Station”. Please check www.rsm.govt.nz (the link to the General User Licence for Maritime purposes can be found by clicking the Licensing tab) or call 0508 776 463 for further details.

ALL RADIO OPERATORS MUST BE LICENSED TO OPERATE MARINE RADIO EQUIPMENT – members shall comply with Maritime Radio protocol as set out in the Radio Handbook (this may change from time to time). Penalties may be imposed on any member who breaches this protocol, including being asked to cease using the above channels.

Improper use of VHF radio systems may incur a fine of up to $20,000.
